Flood Warnings, School Activities Canceled Today
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a flash flood warning is currently in effect in Anne Arundel County until 6:15 p.m. Our area has already received 2 to 4 inches of rain. Expect high winds and periods of heavy rain throughout the rest of the afternoon and early evening.
Anne Arundel County Public Schools announced that because of the inclement weather, after-school and school-sponsored activities are canceled. This means that the activity buses will not run and there will be no evening middle and high school classes. All schools will dismiss at their normal times. AACPS athletic contests scheduled for today have been moved to Oct. 4.
The status of activities sponsored by agencies other than AACPS is determined by the sponsoring agency.
The NWS warns people to not drive vehicles into areas where water covers the road because the water depth might be deceiving. It could be too deep to allow your car to cross safely. Residents living near bodies of water should take precautions to protect themselves and their property.
The Whole Foods at Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole has apparently closed their underground garage due to flooding and safety concerns, according to their Facebook page.
Also, watch out for flooding on Defense Highway/Route 450 near Waterworks Park. Cones across the road at Windermere Court discourage drivers from attempting to continue on the road that is prone to flooding. It's best to take an alternate route.
