Heads or Tails of Lemongrass

Let's just start off by saying that Lemongrass is one of my favorite restaurants in Annapolis. I just get cravings for their delicious, spicy and fresh-to-order food. It also isn't going to break the bank, especially if you were smart enough to nab one of their reoccurring Groupons or LivingSocial deals.

So last weekend this craving came around for some of their spicy, curry flavored goodness and we waited through the crowd to be seated. Note: This place is always packed on the weekend, just embrace it. It's worth it.

One of our favorite things to have at Lemongrass is the Lemongrass-Ginger Mojito. This is one of the best drinks I have ever had. So refreshing, and the mint, lemongrass and ginger all go together so well. We were smart enough to buy a Groupon so we opted instead for a pitcher of the delicious libation. It's called the Best Friends Forever option. Which is fantastic just in name alone.

Also, because of our Groupon deal, we decided to add an appetizer. We originally wanted the Fresh Garden Rolls, but they had run out so we decided for Crispy Spring Rolls. This was probably the first time I have ever been disappointed with an item from Lemongrass. The taste was fine, the dipping sauce was excellent, but they were just...tiny! I mean, they look like little baby fingers and there were only three for $4.95. My suggestion? Skip this appetizer and opt for the steamed dumplings or lettuce wraps, both are excellent.

However, I wasn't discouraged because I knew that the best part was yet to come, and I had also had half a pitcher of mojito. One of my favorite dishes to get at Lemongrass is the Green Curry. It is a fantastic dish, with creamy coconut milk, bamboo shoots and eggplant. It also packs quite a punch if you are looking for the spicy factor.

Now I normally get this dish with chicken, but I decided to change it up a little bit and got with shrimp. The dish came out fantastic, like usual, the flavors were spot on, but I was surprised to see that my shrimp still had their tails on them. I feel that when used in a soup or something similar like a curry it is appropriate and even expected for the shrimp to be tail-less. It just makes it difficult and awkward to eat.

So in all, although there were a few let downs at the meal, Lemongrass would have to do a lot more to turn me away. I really do love this restaurant and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.
