Annapolis Supported Same-Sex Marriage, DREAM Act
Annapolis supported the president and the DREAM Act even though both lost in Anne Arundel County.
Annapolis voters broke with Anne Arundel County to support President Barack Obama and the DREAM Act, according to complete but unofficial results from the Anne Arundel County Board of Elections.
Annapolitans also supported same-sex marriage and keeping the Congressional district lines as drawn in greater percentages than the county.
Question 4 (DREAM Act)—Annapolis voted to keep the DREAM Act, which provides in-state tuition at state colleges for certain undocumented immigrants, 58 to 42 percent. It contrast, Anne Arundel County rejected the idea with 51 percent of people voting against Question 4.
The measure also passed in Maryland 58 to 42 percent.
The law enjoyed its greatest support in Annapolis from voters at the Eastport Community Center where 70.59 percent of voters said yes. The Bay Area Community Church had the highest percentage of voters in opposition with 54 percent saying no.
Question 5 (Redistricting)—Annapolis and Anne Arundel County both voted against sending the newly drawn Congressional Districts back to the Statehouse. In Annapolis, 57 percent of voters said yes, while in Anne Arundel County 51 percent voted for the lines.
When groups opposed to the lines gathered signatures for the referendum this year, Anne Arundel County had the most of any Maryland County.
Maryland voters opted to keep the current boundry lines by 64 percent.
Question 6 (Civil Unions)—Annapolis supported same-sex marriage by 61 percent, which is higher than both Anne Arundel County and Maryland, which supported the law at 53 percent and 52 percent respectively.
Only two polling places in Annapolis recorded a majority opposing the law: Bay Area Community Church with 52 percent voting no and American Legion Post #7 where 57 percent said no.
Annapolis also voted for President Barack Obama, while the county went narrowly for Republican Mitt Romney.
