Anne Arundel Medical Center officials recently announced the election of a new president of its medical staff.

The medical staff elected Dr. Kenneth S. Gummerson as president, according to a release. Gummerson, chief of emergency services for the hospital, joined the AAMC medical staff in 1983.

As the principal elected officer, Gummerson will oversee the formulation of policy and procedures of the medical staff and ensures coordination with administration and the board of trustees, according to a release.

Gummerson also serves as chairman of the Medical Executive Committee and is a member of the board of trustees.

He succeeded past president Dr. Douglas S. Mitchell, according to the release.
