Fans of Navy football have a chance to show their spirit by making their own video to be featured during the Army-Navy game on Dec. 8.
"With midshipmen and cadets producing spirit videos for the game each year, this now gives fans on both sides a chance to do the same," said Jeff Barnes, a Navy Athletics spokesman.
Every year students at the U.S. Naval Acdemy and West Point create spirit videos ahead of the game, which usually are a music video remake of a popular song.
In 2012, both Army and Navy chose the South Korean Pop song "Gangnam Style," and both garnered more YouTube clicks than any previous video. The midshipmen's video was viewed more than 6.5 million times.
The two teams collaborated this year to expand the game's social media presence and hatched up the contest plan, Barnes said.
Army and Navy enthusiasts have until Nov. 28 to create spirit videos, upload them to YouTube and email a link to armynavyfootballgame@gmail.com.
Representatives from both schools will choose the top three videos for each side, Barnes said. Those six will be shared on the Army-Navy Game Facebook page, and fans will decide on one winner for Army and one winner for Navy.
The creators of each winning video will receive two tickets to this year's Army-Navy Game, two pregame on-field passes and a parking pass.
Their videos will also be played on the video board at Lincoln Financial Field during the game.
