Circulator Runs Special Routes for Drum Corps Championships
The trolley service will run extra routes to the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and West Annapolis on Saturday.
The trolley service in Annapolis will run extra routes for the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) 2012 World Championship to be held at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium on Saturday.
The city estimates that approximately 20,000 Drum Corps participants and fans will fill the downtown area over the Labor Day weekend, according to a press release.
“We want to make it as convenient as possible for our visitors to travel around the downtown area," Lisa Craig, executive director of MainStreets Annapolis Partnership, said in a press release. That means "spending less time locating parking and more time enjoying the Historic District, our museums, restaurants, galleries, shops and other visitor attractions.”
The three-day event will be held at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium, and tickets start at $27 for preliminary rounds and $32 for the finals. The first day of competition features individual/ensemble and mini corps on Friday.
On Saturday, the circulator trolley will run a special route from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the competition's preliminary rounds. Drum Corps fans who park at the stadium can catch the circulator trolley across the street at Herbert Sachs Blvd.
There will be a $2 fee to be paid to the driver upon boarding to ride the circulator to and from the stadium or an all-day pass is available for $4 per person.
In addition to the stadium stops, the circulator will also run to West Annapolis. MainStreets Annapolis Partnership (MAP) has 50 area businesses participating in the Plates & Perks promotion, which provides drum corps attendees discounts to shopping and dining downtown.
According to MAP's website, "This is our chance to make sure all those visitors climb on the trolley system and come to authentic Annapolis instead of getting in their cars and driving to Parole."
Here are the additional stops being made by the circulator:
- Taylor Ave & Ridgley Ave
- Annapolis St & Giddings Ave
- Annapolis St & Melvin Ave
- Ridgley Ave & Melvin Ave
- Taylor Ave & Herbert Sachs Dr
- Rowe Blvd & Herbert Sachs Dr
- NW St between Calvert St & Church Circle

City of Annapolis,
Thanks for a great weekend in your city. And a special thank you for those restaurants extending a discount to the Drum Corps Associate (DCA) fans and participants. That was a pleasant surprise. Your city is steeped in history and I look forward to coming back on a non-holiday weekend. Thanks for being so hospitable and friendly!
