Rebecca Windsor lives in Severn, and is a rising senior at Archbishop Spalding High School. She thought the competition was a good opportunity to get a quick piece done. "I actually want to major in some kind of design in college," Windsor said.

Student painters took to the streets of downtown Annapolis to compete in a quick draw competition sponsored by Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts on Saturday.

The plein air (outdoor painting) competition gave 16 high school students from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. to pick a downtown Annapolis location that interested them and paint it, said Donna Anderson, Maryland Hall's vice president for external affairs.

When time was up, students handed in their completed works to be displayed in Maryland Hall's second-floor hallway gallery until July 15.

I managed to spot the locations of three different students and ask them a few questions about their paintings and whether art will factor into their future careers.
