Man Dies After Crashing Vehicle Into House
Police said a Virginia man smashed into a garage door of a Bay Ridge home, then suffered critical injuries after his Jeep Cherokee caught fire.
UPDATE (3:15 p.m.)—Anne Arundel County police said a Virginia man died from injuries he suffered after crashing his Jeep Cherokee into a Bay Ridge home early Sunday morning.
The vehicle smashed through a garage door and eventually caught on fire, critically burning the driver.
Police said Dana Brian Simonsen, 25, of the 6000 block of Netherton Street in Centreville, VA, wrecked into the home in the 1200 block of Fort Hill Court at about 4:30 a.m., according to a release.
The man suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash and fire and was flown to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Monday afternoon, police said.
Investigators said Simonsen’s 1998 Jeep Cherokee entered the driveway of the home and collided with the garage door, breaking it free and forcing it into the garage.
The house was unoccupied a the time, according to the release.
Police said Simonsen was apparently passed out with his foot on the gas pedal, causing the right rear wheel to spin until it caught fire.
The fire burned the right rear quarter panel and soon made its way into the passenger area, according to the release.
Police said they are continuing to investigate.
