"A ring that was a Christmas present from my husband," said Alanna Wright, who stopped in Alpaca International for some holiday shopping with her daughter, Erin. "Erin was 5—she was in the jewelry store with my husband and she helped pick it out. She never ratted either one of us out with the surprise." As for Erin, 13, she said, "My guitar—it was exactly what I wanted," referring to a red, shiny, PRS electric guitar she received two years ago from Santa.

I just got my best gift ever yesterday. It was news that a fund that I helped a Tokyo-based Japanese nonprofit set up here in the US in the wake of the big earthquake/tsunamic raised $2 million in charitable donations from my generous fellow Americans (bless them one and all!). The nonprofit's share of that allowed it to buy 1550 trucks and vans for 18 local nonprofits so that they could transport supplies and volunteers to and within the hardest hit areas. Thousands of people have been helped. That did my heart real good, since I lived in Japan for several years and have been terribly concerned. It's a lovely reminder that the little bit I did, combined with lots of other people's little bits can actually add up to make a big difference in a lot of people's lives. It gives me great hope for our troubled world! What a gift!

That's an absolutely amazing gift! Bravo to you and all those who supported Japan's rebuilding efforts. That is indeed a memorable gift if ever there was one.
