A new child care center opened Thursday in Broadneck with a mission to help parents carve out a few hours for themselves on hectic weekdays.

At MyTime Childcare, located on Buschs Frontage Road, parents can drop their children off for hours at a time with no appointment. This frees parents up to take care of necessary chores around town or other daily activities in their busy weeks, said owner Jody Baldwin.

"Over the years I've heard from parents who wanted just an hour here or there to be able to do their own things, and I thought this would be a really great idea," Baldwin said. "It gives parents a lot more flexibility if they need to drop in to an appointment elsewhere."

MyTime hosted its ribbon-cutting in January, a month ahead of their opening, and named their playground after a Broadneck High School graduate, J.T. Sackett, who passed away in 2009. Sackett was a close friend of Baldwin's son.

The walls of MyTime are covered with hand-painted murals featuring popular icons such as Ms. Pac-Man and Sonic the Hedgehog, characters from Cars, and the Blue Angels flying near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.  

The paintings were done by Anne Marie Roberts and Joan Feick, who live in the area.

Baldwin is the former assistant director of programs for children and the Kids Club at Big Vanilla. All of MyTime's staff members must have background checks through the FBI and the state before they are hired, Baldwin said.

Pricing starts at $15 per hour for the first child, and $5 per hour for additional children. Time can also be bought in blocks of 10 or 25 with scaled pricing, Baldwin said.
