Naval Academy Looks to Increase Seating at Football Stadium
The Naval Academy Athletic Association wants to add 3,000 to 4,000 new seats to prepare for the football team's transition into the Big East Conference in 2015.
The seating at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium could soon incease by 10 percent, according to the Capital Gazette.
The Naval Academy Athletic Association plans to spend $16 million between now and 2015 adding up to 4,000 seats to prepare for the academy’s change to the Big East Conference.
“We’re still developing the plan; it’s not something we’ve finalized yet,” academy Athletic Director Chet Gladchuk told the Capital. “There’s a number of hurdles, including raising the dollars to do it.”
The association's plans also include new club-level seating on the upper east side of the stadium, high-definition video boards in the end zones, a new media center and upgrades to the locker rooms, Gladchuk said.
He told the Capital that despite the upgrades, there will be no noticeable increase in ticket prices.
“I was here 10 years ago when we were struggling, and we had loyal fans who stayed with the program despite losing years,” Gladchuk said. “So, I feel compelled to make sure ticket prices are affordable for fans and friends.”
