UPDATE: Patient Jumps Out Hospital Window to Evade Arrest

Bradly Poure, 40, of New York, jumped out a sixth floor window at AAMC on Friday to avoid arrest by Annapolis police for several charges including second degree assault of an officer.

UPDATE: (Saturday, 6:30 p.m.)—A 40-year-old man suffered life threatening injuries after he jumped out a sixth floor window at Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) to avoid arrest on Friday at 4:30 p.m.

"I can confirm that it is not an attempted suicide,” Chad Dillard, executive director of marketing for AAMC, said. “He was attempting to escape arrest.”

Annapolis police officers responded to a call at about 4 a.m. on Thursday for a man sleeping near a motorcycle at the 24/7 Fuel Mart on Forest Drive, said Detective Amy Miguez. Officers approached Bradly Poure, of New York, and decided he needed to be taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

“He did not want to go,” Miguez said. “I really can’t say much more than that because of patient confidentiality.”

Miguez did say that as a result of the incident, police charged Poure with first- and second-degree assault, second-degree assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

Police had Poure admitted to AAMC on an emergency petition early Thursday morning where he remained under hospital care until his escape attempt Friday afternoon. Miguez said officers were not present at the time Bourne jumped, and she could not say whether he knew an arrest warrant had been issued.

Poure used a piece of medical equipment to break the window in his sixth floor hospital room and jump out, landing on a third floor roof, Dillard said.

Anne Arundel County Fire Division Chief Michael Cox said the fall was about 35 to 40 feet. Firefighters and emergency personnel located Poure on the roof, and decided he was too badly injured to attempt to bring him down the aerial ladders located on the outside of the hospital building.

Cox said emergency personnel broke a third floor window at AAMC in order to bring Poure inside.

"It was more efficient and more effective to go through the hospital rather than down on of the aerial ladders," Cox said. "He was taken priority one by state police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma unit in Baltimore."

Miguez said she heard that Poure would likely survive his escape attempt.

A trip to Shock Trauma at the MD tax-payers expense, no doubt. All this to avoid being arrested.
