PHOTOS: Huge Cargo Ship Passes Under Bay Bridge
A Chinese cargo ship carrying four massive cranes passed underneath the Bay Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
There was a media blitz at Sandy Point State Park Wednesday afternoon—one of the hottest days of the year.
Four news helicopters hovered overhead as reporters and photography enthusiasts alike gathered near the beach to watch a massive cargo ship pass slowly underneath the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
The ship was carrying four cranes, the largest of their kind in the world, to Baltimore, The Capital reported. The cranes are 14-stories tall, each capable of lifting 187,000 pounds. One of the trials of the trip was passing under the bridge, the clearance of which can change based on the tide.
Thankfully, it cleared the bridge with no trouble, at a seemingly slow pace.
During its passage, traffic was shut off for both routes on the Bay Bridge for about 30 minutes.

Awesome pics! These are some of the best photos I've seen of the ship all day. Most of them were those tiny cell-phone images.

Better shots than the one in the Washington Post this morning.
