Power Outages in Downtown Annapolis
About 3,500 customers in Annapolis—mostly downtown—lost power Monday afternoon.
Officials from Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) said a power outage that occurred around 4 p.m. Monday left about 3,500 customers in the Annapolis area without power.
The outages were "due to a problem with a piece of equipment" involving one of the company's substations, said BGE spokesman Rob Gould.
Power has now been restored to all but roughly 1,000 of those customers, he said, adding that most of the outages were downtown.
Monday's outages came one day ahead of an impending weather system that could bring heavy rain, high wind and potentially downed power lines.
In a press release sent by BGE Monday afternoon, the company encouraged residents to check the company's website, Twitter and Facebook pages for information regarding power restoration efforts.
“BGE is closely monitoring this approaching weather system and has already made some adjustments in anticipation of possible power outages resulting from the forecasted high wind,” said A. Christopher Burton, senior vice president of gas and electric operations and planning for BGE in the release.
