Twas a Gentlemen's Martini Holiday in Annapolis

The tradition, in its seventh year, attracted more than 75 men Wednesday on a bar tour downtown.

The seventh annual Gentlemen’s Martini Holiday Tour wound its way around downtown Annapolis Wednesday, attracting its highest number of participants yet.

The idea, started by organizer Greg Jacobson, is for a group of men—that's been growing each year—to enjoy an afternoon off during the holidays and help raise money for charity.

And to have a good time doing it.

This year, the event raised more than $1,300 for the Wounded Warriors Project, Jacobson said.

The event organizer also said the first year saw about six or seven men. This year more than 75 men joined in the celebration, he said.

The group got under way at McGarvey’s, then stopped at Middleton Tavern—always outside, rain, shine or freezing cold. Other stops included Dock Street, Armadillo’s and Acme.

Jacobson said participants pay one fee and the bars either offer discounted drinks or agree to donate a portion of the tab to charity.

Another rule is that all participants must be dropped off for the tour and either take a cab home or have a ride arranged.

“We have been so successful at this rule in years past and I beg you to keep this tradition alive,” Jacobson said in an email to participants. “It is simply too easy to find a way down and a way back. Just do it.”
