Upgrade Coming for Alex Haley Statue in Downtown Annapolis
The Maryland Board of Public Works set aside more than $36,000 to spruce up the City Dock statue and plaques.
The Maryland Board of Public Works recently set aside money to clean and polish the landmark statue of Roots author Alex Haley in downtown Annapolis.
According to a story in The Capital, the project also will include an upgrade of the 12 plaques that line City Dock.
On a recent visit downtown, and a closer inspection of the statue, it appears as if it's about time to spruce them up.
When's the last time you checked out the Kunte Kinte Alex Haley Memorial? Do you think it needs sprucing up?

$36,000??? Are you kidding me? Wonder whose friend owns that company? In these financially tight times, it's criminal that the city would spend that much money on something frivolous. Buy a can of Brasso, enlist a boy scout troop, and go to town.

Totally agree with Amy. Id rather see one new teacher in our public school system! What a complete waste of money at this time!

I couldn't agree more with Amy and Dan. How ironic that so much would be spent on a sculpture about an educated man reading to children at a time when our public school budgets are cut to the bone. More than ironic -- it's plain wrong.

More waste in Maryland. Who is on that Board, the three stooges?
