Volunteer Opportunities In and Around Annapolis

  • Annapolis Opera
    Volunteers ages 16 and older are needed to help with publicity, school outreach, ad sales, performance support, bookkeeping, computer work, receptions, support for the vocal competition and auditions, and much more. Call 410-267-8135, or email, or visit the website for more information.
  • Happy Helpers for the Homeless
    On Nov. 19, in recognition of National Family Volunteer Day, Happy Helpers for the Homeless will prepare 1,000 sandwiches from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Grace Point Presbyterian Church, 615 Donaldson Ave. in Severn.
    If you'd like to do something to help at home, donations are needed for the "Bag a Breakfast Project." Put together a bag breakfast to be distributed to the homeless with a box of cereal, spoon and cup, pastry, fruit, hot chocolate package with cup and spoon, juice box, and napkin.   • Salvation Army
    The Salvation Army based in Annapolis will host a community Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 24 and needs volunteers. Other needs include volunteers for a variety of Christmas programs in November and December, donations of meals for sorters of Angel Tree gifts, sponsorship of Angel Trees, and donations of non-perishable food.

  • Operation Welcome Home
    Volunteers needed every week at BWI Airport International Terminal to welcome military personnel returning home by cheering, clapping and shaking hands to say thanks.
    Also needed are donations of water and snacks for the troops, along with “thank you” cards for distribution in snack bags.

  • Drivers Needed for Regency Park Assisted Living
    Winter weather is around the corner so Regency Park Assisted Living is searching for volunteer drivers (with a four-wheel-drive vehicle), age 21 and older with a good driving record.

  • Opportunity Builders, Inc.
    This nonprofit group provides vocational training and employment services to adults with developmental disabilities. Volunteer Instructor Aides, minimum age 18, assist clients with staying on-task to meet production quotas and help them to learn appropriate work skills and techniques.
    Volunteers who can commit to coming to the Millersville facility, once a week for at least three months are preferred.
    Volunteers, individuals and groups, also conduct job interviews, teach computer classes, assist with special events, painting and maintenance projects, serve on an OBI committee and more.
