Woman Robbed on Clay Street

Annapolis Police say a man approached a woman from behind and stole her purse as she walked home on Tuesday evening.

A woman walking home in the 200 block of Clay Street had her purse stolen on Tuesday evening, according to Annapolis Police.

Police said the woman had parked her car and was walking home when a man she didn't know passed her on the street. She told police that the man walked by, turned around and grabbed her purse from behind.

He didn't say anything or imply he had a weapon, according to a police report.

The woman told police that she lost her balance and fell into the street when the man pulled the purse off her shoulder. She did not need medical attention.

He reportedly fled in the direction of Pleasant Street.

As police searched the area for the suspect, an officer spotted the woman's brown leather purse along with its contents—which were scattered across a grassy area near Clay Street.

The woman told officers the only thing missing was the $5 she had in her wallet.
