World AIDS Day Events in Annapolis

Free HIV testing and memorial events will occur on Saturday.

Annapolitans can observe World AIDS Day on Saturday by attending a candlelight tribute, listening to educational speakers and by knowing their own status through free HIV testing.

In 2008, the last year for which data is available, there were 984 people living with HIV in Anne Arundel County. That's one case for every 521 people in the county.

Testing:

  • First Presbyterian Church, 171 Duke of Gloucester St. from noon to 4 p.m. Results take just 20 minutes; people are welcome to walk in or call 410-22-7108 for an appointment.
  • Annapolis Health Services, 3 Harry S. Truman Pkwy., offers free testing Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call 410-222-7108.

Events:

  • First Christian Community Church, 1800 Hall Brown Rd. at 6:30 p.m.
The event will include refreshments, displays, speakers, music and a candle lighting tribute to honor loved ones who have died from AIDS. The Harmonic Fourth Jazz Ensemble, the One Voice Mass Choir and the Spiritually Anointed Mime Dancers will all perform.
