AAMC's E-Waste Day was a Triple Win

The Anne Arundel Medical Center Green Team had a big success today, January 12, with its E-Waste event and the benefits go way beyond the Annapolis area. A big truck was filled top to bottom with crates full of computers, TVs, stereos, and more this morning as many people dropped off items that were no longer useful to them. The items will be taken apart, materials separated, and sold to be used again in the manufacture of something else.

Here’s the win-win-win side of this:

  1. People like me cleared our homes of unwanted electronics in an environmentally sound way.
  2. People who need jobs in our area will benefit. Rather than shipping the items overseas, the collection truck was bound for a reclamation company in Baltimore that has hired local people.
  3. The environment benefited too – as a great deal of plastic and hazardous waste was reclaimed and kept out of the landfill.

Charlotte Wallace of the hospital’s Green Team said she heard from a lot of people that they learned about the event from Annapolis Green! We’re glad to spread the word.
