It is with great pleasure that Balanced Life Skills has some new happenings to share with the community. Starting in September, Balanced Life Skills is adding some new components that will help further fulfill the mission of our program. We strive to cultivate compassion, awareness, and respect in every child and family, resulting in well-rounded, involved community leaders.
Joe Van Deuren, Mr. Joe the founder of Balanced Life Skills has been teaching in the community for years. Opening Balanced Life Skills in 2003 was just the beginning of a dream of incorporating the martial arts and being a well rounded leader. His vision always included incorporating the visual arts. Now he is partnering to offer the visual arts in a more structured format.
Debra Soreff has been teaching in the community for years as well! This Fall she is joining Mr. Joe in making this vision a reality. Debra and Joe as well as artist Cindy Cole will be working together to offer a program that connects to the rest of the happenings at Balanced Life Skills. All classes will use a monthly theme and art projects taught will weave the theme of the month into the lesson.
“As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of Balanced Life Skills in November, we are continuing to grow the services we are offering to families, with the goal of creating a culture of kindness and peace in homes, schools and the community. The dream of Visual Arts added to the Martial Arts has long been a dream, so we able to meet students where they are and with the activities they enjoy, while developing the character and skills of students.”
Cindy and Debra will be teaching art classes for young children Ages 3-6 on Wednesday and Thursday morning from 9:15 – 12pm. In addition Debra is offering a lunchtime art class from 12:15 pm – 2:30pm. Cindy is offering an afterschool class for Ages 5 and up on Thursdays from 3:50 – 4:30pm and 4:30 – 5:10 pm.
Mr. Joe and Ms. Debra will be offering four Friday night workshops this fall as well. These workshops are 3 hours long and include a fun hands- on art project and taekwondo. The dates for these Friday night workshops are September 13th, October 18th, November 1st, and December 6th. The workshops are from 6 to 9PM. This is a great opportunity for children to try both art and movement together. For more information you can visit the website at www.balancedlifeskills.com or call (410) 263-0050.
