A public forum on Traffic, Development and the Future of the Annapolis Neck Peninsula will be held at Key Auditorium, St. John’s College,Tuesday, June 3, at 7:00 pm.
Sponsored by the Annapolis Neck Peninsula Federation and the Anne Arundel Sierra Club, the event is spurred by two recent traffic events that resulted in massive gridlock that crippled the Annapolis Neck Peninsula and trapped many of us for hours and hindered public safety vehicles. Everyday traffic snarls occur even while major residential and retail developments are being approved along this already overcrowded and dangerous corridor.
For example, the huge Crystal Spring development at Spa Road and Forest Drive would add more than 525 housing units and a large amount of commercial, retail, and office space including an 80-room hotel and large food store. Additionally, the City is in various stages of approval for 500 more units in the Forest Drive corridor plus more retail/commercial developments.
Experts at the forum will describe the challenges drivers face on Forest Drive and review proposed solutions. They will explain what it takes to design an efficient, safe road. Other issues will also be discussed, especially school capacity and environmental concerns
A public discussion will follow.Plenty of free parking is available at the State’s Bladen Street garage on St. Johns Street off of College Avenue, which is directly across the street from the Key Auditorium.
