Annapolitans Throw Christmas Party for Wounded Veterans

Warrior Events will host a dinner party in Annapolis for veterans from Walter Reed Hospital.

About 20 wounded veterans and their families will make the trip from Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda to Annapolis this December for a Christmas party hosted by Warrior Events.

"Our foundation puts on regular events for the wounded group at the hospital," Warrior Events founder John O’Leary said. "We do an event a month, and it made sense to a do holiday party."

The idea is to get the troops out of the hospital for a night to relax and enjoy themselves like any regular holiday party, O'Leary said.

A private homeowner in Annapolis volunteered to host the party, which will include a visit from Santa Claus. O'Leary said the person(s) want to remain anonymous.

"They've attended a number of our events, and they actually offered up their home for the party," O'Leary said.

The Annapolis-based charity relies on donations for its events, but O'Leary said this party came in at a relatively low price tag. In addition to the house, Stewart Lawn & Landscape donated all the holiday decorations.

The Annapolis-based company specializes in custom installation and removal of holiday decor.

“We are truly honored to be able to participate in this event,” said Ron Stewart, owner and founder of Stewart Lawn & Landscape. “Warrior Events of Annapolis has a great history of honoring servicemen and women, and we will do everything in our power to honor that tradition.”

Stewart dispatched a crew of three people who spent 21 hours decorating the outside of the house with wreaths, lights and garlands. Had the homeowners been charged, it would have cost them between $3,000 and $4,000.
