Green Beer Races To Be Held Day Before St. Paddy's Day

Eastport Democratic Club to host event, open to kids and adults.

Annapolis runners—take your mark and get ready to slosh—the Green Beer Races are coming to the Eastport Democratic Club (EDC). 

According to a press release by the EDC, the public is invited to attend the races, rain or shine, to be held March 16. Events will run from noon until 8 p.m.

"The historic private club, founded in 1929, will host 4-person (2 men, 2 women) Bar/Restaurant Relay and Children’s (Kool-Aid®) races in addition to the annual Men’s, Women’s and Kids’ Keg Toss," the release states.

The events will include a keg toss, as well as team relay races, with contestants carrying what else but, green beer, on trays and this while trying to complete the courses as quickly as possible. Contests for best dressed dog and cutest leprechaun will also be held.

Refreshments, including green beer, corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, burgers, hot dogs, freshly shucked oysters and spiced shrimp will be available for purchase.

"A portion of the proceeds of the 2013 Green Beer Races will benefit Georgetown East Elementary," according to the release.

Outside Activities:

Noon - Gates open; Race & Keg Toss Registration

12:15 - “Call to the Races” by Hal, the Piper; “Traditional Irish Toast” by Dave Aland, Ancient Order of the Hibernians   

12:30 - Adult Relay Race and Keg Toss Registration              

1:00 - Kids Green Kool-Aid® Races (no pre-registration required)

2:00 -Adult Relay Races & Keg Toss

2:30 & 4:00 - The Teelin Irish Dance Company

3:00 - Keg Toss

4:30 - ”Best Dressed Dog” & “Cutest Leprechaun” Judging                                 

Post-Race Celebration (Inside): 

3:00 - 5:00 - Ebb & Flo, Local Acoustic Favorites

5:00 - 8:00 - Michael McHenry Tribe; Soulful, Psychedelic, Funky Rock music
