Wes Sims, owner of Fusion Custom Homes of Annapolis, announced this morning the family selected for the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is located in Wicomico County on Maryland's Eastern Shore.
The family does not know yet—the 'door knock' will take place on Sept. 28.
"The actual build location, we can say now, is Wicomico County," said Sims, which is approximately 90 miles from Annapolis.
This is further away than the 30 miles from Annapolis both the builder and the show's senior producer
"We heard rumbling of a couple of families that are really close by," said Sims. "There were so many variables in to finding the right family."
Apparently the family in Wicomico County is very deserving.
"This particular family had such a great story, the story was so compelling that the producers wanted to tell their story," Sims explained. "Fortunately they had a builder close enough to handle it."
In advance of the build, Fusion is putting out the call for help—lots and lots of help.
"Top of the list would be framers—any sort of carpentry help," said Sims. "Guys or girls with tool belts—the minimum we're looking for is six hours. Six hours, four shifts a day, 24 hours a day and 106 to complete the house."
Sims said that includes, "complete demo of the existing" home.
That is only the start—Fusion's independent website dedicated to the Extreme build, allows people to make donations of time, equipment or money towards the build.
To gear up for the build, Fusion will be hosting many events, some of which are in Annapolis.
On Tuesday evening, a fundraising kickoff dinner will be held at the , according to Fusion's website.
"It's an island theme‚it's basically come on down, have some dinner with the builders," said Sims.
On Wednesday will be a trades day, in which Fusion will seek to sign up skilled tradespeople. That will start at 7 a.m. at Rams Head On Stage.
Rams Head has already been a big help to Fusion, according to Sims.
"Rams Head has been amazing," said Sims. "They've basically allowed us to use the space on the stage side, which is huge."
There's more—much more.
"They have 400 employees they've thrown in to support of the build," Sims said.
