The SPCA of Anne Arundel County needs your help. And your uncle's help. And your neighbor's help. Well, they need a lot of help.
The organization is in the running to be entered into the ASPCA Rachael Ray's $100,000 challenge. They've passed the first round, and are among 108 organizations competing for votes online.
"You can only vote from noon on April 5th to noon on April 16th," said Kimberly Teeter, the SPCA's volunteer and foster coordinator.
Through traditional and social media, as well as fliers, Teeter hopes to get the word out to as many people as possible.
"We need the public's help to get us into the challenge," she said.
If the SPCA wins this round, what happens next?
"From Aug 1st to Oct 31st of this year, we're in an adoption challenge—we have to adopt 300 or more animals more than we did this time last year," said Teeter.
The top prize is $100,000 with a handful of lesser grants awarded to the other top contestants.
There's one other thing, not related to the contest, but still an SPCA need from the community.
"We're hitting kitten season—it's been a warm winter so to speak," said Teeter. "We have a number of cats that have been here a year or more—we want them to find a good home."
These cats are free for approved applicants until May 31.
