The host of "The Colbert Report" was recently named to a prestigious Annapolis-based sailing hall of fame's advisory board.

Political satirist and actor Stephen Colbert was named this month to the National Sailing Hall of Fame (NSHOF)'s Honorary Advisor Board, according to a press release from the nonprofit organization.

"I'm honored to be named to the Honorary Advisory Board," said Colbert in the release. "I will do my best to not capsize the National Sailing Hall of Fame. Hard Alee!"

Colbert grew up on Charleston Harbor in South Carolina, an area that shares a NSHOF club. He sailed off and on until 2005, when he was invited by a friend to crew in the Charleston to Bermuda race on board a 45-foot cat ketch, and fell in love, according to the release.

Colbert joins the ranks of other members, including actor and avid sailor Morgan Freeman, who has served as Chair of the board since 2009.

The nonprofit educational facility is dedicated to preserving the legacy of sailing in America and showcasing its impact on American culture.
