Top 10 Comments from Thursday Night's 'Blackout'

While some people freaked out a little, some of the best comments came from people cracking jokes in light of the power outage.

There probably couldn’t have been a worse night than last night to have a massive, unexplained power outage.

In the article’s comments, on Twitter and Annapolis Patch’s Facebook page, most readers shared messages of concern and irony. However, a select few immediately went to humor and shared some posts that literally had us laughing out loud.

Here is my personal roundup of the top 10 comments from last night’s blackout. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did.

No editing was done to adjust these comments.

Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen (Twitter)—"Stay calm and collected. It's not the Mayan apocalypse. I need to get the Market House reopened before the world ends."

Edward Charles (Patch comment)—"It's all Dubya's fault. (humor, don't be hating....)"

Bruce Potter (Facebook)—"Saw a picture of my mother in law in a nightgown, Please God, If you cant scrub my eyes, let the world end. Im ready now."

Faux BGE spokesman Mortimer McGilicutty (Twitter)—"Just checked the expiration on our MEXICAN MADE transformers. 12-21-12. Well-played Mayans."

Mark E. Smith (Facebook)—"I just saw four horsemen riding through Davidsonville heading east."

Don Schaaf & Friends (Twitter)—"Mayans 1 Annapolis 0"

Kyle Bellamy (Patch comment)—"Got a tweet from BGE not long after patch tweet saying they lost the trunk lines. First time EVER they had anything to say to me aside from you owe us money. Lol."

Mandy Johnson (Patch Comment)—"Can't trust those aliens..always starting trouble."

S C Eastport (Patch comment)—"Glad that our leadership has nothing more to offer than 'I've never seen anything like this.'"

Gus Baganz (Patch Video)— Child's voice: "What the heck?" Man: "It's the end of the world."

Stayed up all night looking for Zombies. Not a one in sight. Did see a politician or 2. Just like zombies but not the same. At least a zombie has a pupose.

It's just terrific that Josh Cohen takes so seiously his job and fiduciary responsibility to the taxpayers. Thanks a lot Patch for further pumping up his irresponsibility rather than playing the role of actual journalists. This is not the first time, not even close. L-A-P-D-O-G-S.

And by the way Patch, what is this? "There probably couldn’t have been a worse night than last night to have a massive, unexplained power outage." This is simply MADE-UP nonsense. It'd call it 'sensationalism' except it lacks the faux-gravity. Any sub-freezing winter night would have been far worse to have an outage, unexplained or not. The unpredictability on a busy shopping night was the only minor challenge. This outage was a mild inconvenience with few if any serious consequences, and none reported by you. Your description is not journalism, it's weak conversation filler. And a chance to play kissy-kissy with the Mayor. Again. Yes, this is a piece of relative filler/fluff. Funny comments on the storm. The mother-in-law one was both hilarious and genius. But this is the second time you've celebrated Josh Cohen's latest flip Nero-trash rather than doing what real, adversarial journalists are supposed to do. And it is just another in a long line of such. It's time to decide whether you want to actually serve the community instead of fluffing the local power structure to give us the shaft. Time to choose between amateur and professional, between go-along/get-along and truth to power, between critic and crony. What's it going to be?

It is 6 PM on Sunday and we still have no land line, Wi-Fi or Cable. Verizon promised to be here (Spa Road) by noon on Saturday but now, it will be sometime tomorrow (Monday.) Love to know how many people are without these services.
