Annapolitans are invited to visit 19 galleries around town for demonstrations, drinks and drama at the 22nd annual Art Walk from 4-9 a.m. Thursday.
"Everybody is doing something very different," said Cynthia McBride, Art Walk organizer and owner of . "Each gallery always has something new and creative."
Her gallery will feature pastel artist Lisa Mitchell, who will be showcasing some of her new work and demonstrating how to paint with soft pastels. McBride said people are encouraged to ask questions and interact with Mitchell. There also will be iced lemonade and a musician playing guitar.
Each stop on the Art Walk will be marked with yellow balloons, banners and fliers—the walk's signature color.
When McBride started the walk in 1990 it centered mostly around galleries located in downtown Annapolis, but this year there will be two galleries in west Annapolis and three in Eastport.
West Annapolis is going all out. Weems Creek Jammers will keep Annapolis Street dancing, and 10 artists will be doing live art—including henna, caricatures and even a pet portrait artist, said employee Sherri Shettle.
Her store will have sangria for adults and arts and crafts table for kids. They also will be giving out door prizes from .
The city is getting in on the act as well by extending its free circulator services to , where two of the galleries are located. Visitors can flag the circulator anywhere in its route, and the trolley should stop to pick you up.
McBride also recommended using the Bladen Street Garage because it offers free parking after 6 p.m.
