Soccer Post Opens in Annapolis

A national chain that operates soccer-specific sports stores has opened its first Maryland location in Annapolis.

The Soccer Post, a specialty sports retailer, just opened its first Maryland location in Annapolis at 19 Lincoln Ct.

"There were no soccer specialty stores in this region, and there is a whole lot of soccer players, so we thought it would be good fit," said Annapolis store Manager Sara Femec. "[Annapolis] is a good place. It's kind of centrally located to reach the eastern shore and southern Maryland."

The store carries balls, shin guards and a large selection of soccer cleats that range from entry level to professional. The store also has soccer apparel like warm-ups, referee gear, training suits, soccer shorts and goalie gloves. Femec said the Soccer Post also offers to customize its professional jerseys and local soccer leagues can order team jerseys.

"We have everything soccer," Femec said. "It's kind of like a Mecca for soccer players."

Mayor Josh Cohen and the Annapolis Economic Development Corp. worked together to lure the national chain to the city.

“It’s a win-win for a business when you have a sport that is enjoyed by so many people on so many different levels,” Mayor Josh Cohen said in a press release. “The fact we have city and county leagues that serve both children and adults is another example of the enduring appeal Annapolis has on our sport enthusiasts.”

Femec said the store opened quietly on Aug.4 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. It sits next to a laundromat and across the street from Lumber Liquidators.

"It's been going well," Femec said. "It's been kind of cool to watch the word spread, and see new faces come in the store and have repeat customers already."

The store is open seven days a week. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
