Take 5: Steve Samaras, Owner of Zachary's Jewelers

Patch would like to introduce you to someone new from Annapolis with a round of five questions, helping to shed a little light on our community.

Meet Steve Samaras, owner of in downtown Annapolis.

Patch: How long have you been in business downtown?

Samaras: I've been in the jewelry business in downtown Annapolis since 1982.
Zachary's has been in it's present location since 2005, after the Black
Friday Main Street fire.

Patch: Just how hectic—and important—is Valentine’s Day for your business?

Samaras: Because of the efforts with various promotions throughout the years, we have made Valentine's Day far more important than most other fine jewelers
experience. We've created a Love Letter contest, a citywide "Annapolis in
Love" event, which involved close to 100 downtown businesses, and this year
for every $1,000 purchase we are giving away over $1,000 in prizes from our local business partners.

Patch: What is your favorite part of being a downtown business?

Occupying what is arguably the most popular location in Annapolis, at the
corner of Main Street and Market Space, allows us the opportunity to
showcase our store to over 4 million visitors each year. But more
importantly being involved with our community to help shape and direct the
"Annapolis Experience."

Patch: What is the most challenging aspect you’ve faced as a business

Samaras: Keeping up with the growth of my business yet still maintaining the feeling of a small business, that ever so important, one-on-one, personal and
intimate customer service relationship.

Patch: If you could have one super power, what would it be and why?

Samaras: Multiplicity, so I could be in multiple places at once. At family events,
at a customer's birthday party, out with friends, at a charity function and
getting things done at work.
