Wild Willy’s Sold, Will Become British Pub

The popular live music venue and sports bar on Somerville Road announced it was bought by Union Jacks on Monday.

near the will be closing its doors, according to a press release.

The restaurant's owner, Willy Koutroumpis, announced the sale of his Annapolis location to Union Jacks, a British pub-style bar and restaurant on Monday.

“We want to thank all of our loyal customers, employees and supporters," Koutroumpis said in the release. "We have really enjoyed being a part of the Annapolis business community for almost a decade. Union Jacks is a great fit for the space and location, so we feel it is a win-win for everyone. We will continue our current operations in the restaurant and bar industry, including Willy K’s in Greenbelt."

Koutroumpis also owned TK Sharky's, which was the bar's name up until September 2010 when he converted it to Wild Willy's.

Koutroumpis' spokeswoman Courtney Smith said the owner wasn't looking to sell the location when approached.

"He said it was an offer he couldn't refuse, and he said it was a good deal," Smith said.

The large space and prime location made it an attractive purchase for Union Jacks, which already operates pubs in Bethesda, Columbia and Ballston, VA.

According to the company's website, Union Jacks provides "a casual-meets-refined atmosphere that welcomes beer drinkers and wine aficionados, non-fussy eaters and foodies alike."

Plans are under way for Union Jacks to take over the space in the coming months.

Smith said Koutroumpis, an Annapolis resident, said he has no current plans to open another restaurant in Annapolis right now.

CORRECTION: This article has been updated to correct the name of Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole, and that Willy Koutroumpis owned TK Sharky's, which was the previous establishment until 2010. Patch regrets the error.
