Maryland's Republican gubernatorial primary is about to get its third candidate, with Annapolis resident and Change Maryland chairman Larry Hogan announcing Monday that he intends to throw his hat into the ring.

Change Maryland describes itself as "Maryland's largest non-partisan grassroots citizen-activist organization." The group is known for its vocal opposition to the Gov. Martin O'Malley administration's tax policies.

Professionally, Hogan is the founder and owner of The Hogan Companies, a real estate firm that operates out of Annapolis. He has also served as an aide for former Gov. Bob Ehrlich from 2003 to 2007, where he was involved with appointing cabinet members, regulators administrators and judges across the state, according the Change Maryland website.

Hogan is set to declare his candidacy at 6 p.m. on Jan. 21 at Mike's Crabhouse in Riva.

Republicans already filed are David R. Craig from Harford County and Brian Charles Vaeth from Baltimore County. Change Maryland's website claims that Ehrlich has called Hogan “the only Republican in the state with a chance to win.”

Lt. Governor Anthony Brown, Del. Heather Mizuer, Ralph Jaffe, and Charles Smith will all appear on the ticket for the Democratic gubernatorial primary.
