Members of the U.S. Naval Academy's Dance Team stood in a line, saluting a departing bus at Baltimore Washington International airport on Saturday.
The team was saluting veterans of World War II who were passing through the area en route to war memorials in Washington D.C. as part of the Honor Flight program.
One of the veterans said he was shocked to see so many women in uniform.
"This just didn't happen in my day," he said.
Midshipmen Nicole Kim shook hands with a two-time purple heart awarded veteran. She said the experience reminded her why she chose to attend the academy, according to the U.S. Naval Academy's Facebook page.
"Greeting the veterans was most definitely a humbling experience. Each of them greeted me and thanked me for coming with tear-filled eyes and all I could think about was how thankful I was to be in the presence of 'those who have gone before me," Kim said.
