Last week's toy drive by the Annapolis Police Department was a hit.

A big haul of toys was dropped off at the department throughout the week for the police force's first Christmas toy drive.

"As part of the community, we want to do all we can to help families and children during the holiday season," said police chief Michael Pristoop. "Public safety is our number one priority, but a toy drive is surely another way to show our community commitment and support."

The toys will all be distributed to families in need through the Santa Run, which made a sweep of the county Sunday, collecting even more gifts from throughout Anne Arundel County.

The Santa Run toy drive, sponsored by Annapolis Firefighters Local 1926, collects gifts from visitors and then works with several area agencies to fulfill Christmas wish lists for needy families.
