Annapolis police will begin accepting toy donations at their headquarters starting Monday, in advance of the Santa Run.

The toy drive runs from Dec. 9-13 at the headquarters at 199 Taylor Ave. Parking lot drop-offs can be done without getting out of the car.

New, unwrapped toys are being accepted for the Annapolis Santa Run, where they will later be redistributed to children in need this holiday season.

"As part of the community, we want to do all we can to help families and children during the holiday season," said police chief Michael Pristoop. "Public safety is our number one priority, but a toy drive is surely another way to show our community commitment and support."

This is the first year the department has operated a toy drive, but they  regularly contribute in other ways during the holiday season, said APD spokeswoman Cpl. Amy Miguez.

The Santa Run toy drive, sponsored by Annapolis Firefighters Local 1926, collects gifts from visitors and then works with several area agencies to fulfill Christmas wish lists for needy families.
