Jews around the region and around the world will observe Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement this weekend.
Yom Kippur begins at sundown on Friday and lasts until sundown Saturday.
The holiday is the most important day of the Jewish year and many will mark it by attending synagogue services and fasting, according to a Huffington Post story that explains some of the customs and rituals.

Annapolis, Congregation Kneseth Israel: Kol Nidre service 7:15 p.m. Friday; Yom Kippur services 9 a.m., Yizkor service noon, Mincha service 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Annapolis, : Kol Nidre service 6:15 p.m. Friday; Yom Kippur service and Yizkor 9 a.m., Yom Kippur services resume with Mincha service 4:15 p.m. Saturday.
Arnold, : Kol Nidre and Shabbat services, 8 p.m. Friday; Yom Kippur services throughout the day, Yizkor service 4:45 p.m. Saturday.
