Memorial Service for 4-Star Navy Admiral, USNA Superintendent, is Tuesday

Admiral Kinnaird McKee was known for his extraordinary submarine career, his leadership as Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy and for taking over the U.S. Navy's Nuclear Power program.

The life of a four-star admiral and former US Naval Academy Superintendent will be remembered during memorial services scheduled Tuesday in Annapolis.

Admiral Kinnaird RMcKee, 84, passed away on December 30, 2013, in Annapolis following an extended illness. 

Services begin at 1 p.m. at the U.S. Naval Academy's Main Chapel. The public is invited to attend.

Through his illustrious career, McKee commanded an experimental submarine—the USS X-1, served as immediate staff to the Chief of Naval Operations, and served as superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy from 1975-1978. McKee also played a key role in the planning of naval forces during the Cold War. In 1988, McKee retired from a 41-year career with the  Navy to the Eastern Shore, where he pursued his love of sailing.
