Updated (1:10 p.m.)—Traffic in the east and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 were reopened at 1:08 p.m. after repairs were completed.

At 12:18 p.m. Friday, east and west traffic was shut down on US 50 just before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge while a communications cable issue is resolved, a state highway official said.

A wreck this afternoon in Annapolis caused a Comcast cable to fall on Route 50, according to State Highway Administration spokesman David Buck. Comcast then requested state assistance in closing traffic so that a cable issue could be resolved, Buck said.

At 12:08, all eastbound lanes were closed so that Comcast could pull cables across the highway. Ten minutes later, lanes were closed in both directions. The repair was expected to take 30 minutes, Buck said.

"Everything is closed right now, but we're expecting only very minimal delays," Buck said. "We don't have any wore than about a half-mile in either direction backed up right now."
