A 11-year-old girl is in stable condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing an Annapolis street Monday afternoon.
The girl was in a marked crosswalk on Hilltop Lane at Farragut Court at 3:15 p.m. when she was struck by a 1997 Dodge pickup, CapitalGazette.com reports.
Two other cars had stopped at the intersection, which has no stop sign or stop light, but has markers to indicate cars should stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk, reports The Baltimore Sun.
The girl was conscious and talking to rescue personnel before she was flown to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
Preliminary investigation indicates the 83-year-old man driving the pickup truck drove onto the shoulder and around vehicles stopped in the left-turn lane onto Farragut Court and in the eastbound travel lane, according to the Capital-Gazette.
Charges are pending against the pickup driver, the newspaper said. Excessive speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the accident.
