Anne Arundel County police officers responded to a report of armed robbery Monday. It turns out, the incident never occurred.

Officers responded to the Metro PCS store in the 5600 block of Ritchie Highway, Brooklyn Park on Monday.

Employee Bhaumin Bhrugesh Vyas, 26, of Clarksville was the only one in the store at the time. He told officers two suspects entered the store, showed a handgun and then fled with stolen merchandise and money.

One officer at the scene noticed the employee had a ladder. Officers inspected the rear of the business and found the “stolen” money hidden in the ceiling.

Vyas admitted to committing the robbery and making false reports to conceal the theft in an interview with detectives.

He was arrested and charged with false report and theft over $500.
