A man was hospitalized after being assaulted and robbed in the area of Forest Drive Sunday night by two men, police said.

The victim was approached by two men on Martha Court near his home. One of the men punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground, after which both suspects kicked him and punched him in the face.

At some point, the victim believes he lost consciousness. When he came to, he found his iPhone had been taken.

The man was hospitalized with "substantial abrasions and lacerations to his face," according to a police report.

Annapolis police officers were able to use the "Find my iPhone" feature to locate the phone in some bushes near where the man had been assaulted. The phone had a numeric lock, which could be why the robbers discarded it, police said.

Police are now hoping to identify suspects in the assault based on fingerprints on the phone.
