UPDATE (10:11 a.m.)—Severe thunderstorms swept through Annapolis on Friday night, which resulted in more than 90,000 people in Anne Arundel County losing power, according to Baltimore Gas and Electric's online map.

Annapolis' public information officer Rhonda Wardlaw wrote in a press release on Saturday morning that the city estimates approximately 2,000 Annapolis residents were still without power.

BGE spokesman Rob Gould said the entire region is slammed with power outages.

"We are literally dealing with thousands of outages across our entire network," Gould said. "And not just BGE, but every utility from Pennsylvania through Virginia is dealing with significant outages in the hundreds of thousands range.

"This is going to be most definitely a multi-day restoration, and we also have concerns about approaching weather this afternoon and again tomorrow."

The National Weather Service reports heat index values up to 109 degrees Saturday afternoon.

If you or anyone you know is without power, a cooling center will be open at at 2700 Riva Rd. from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and the Arundel Swim Center (located near the high school) is open to the public to take showers.

Friday night, the comments poured into Annapolis Patch's Facebook page with outages reported in Severna Park, Eastport, upper Harwood near Edgewater, Admiral Heights and along Severn Avenue.
