Thief Breaks into Car Parked at Rockfish

Police say a woman returned to her car to find her rear passenger window broken.

Someone stole $440 worth of clothing from a car in the parking lot of Rockfish Restaurant on Monday night, according to Annapolis police.

Officers responded to the restaurant in the 400 block of Sixth Street around 11:30 p.m. A woman met them and told police that her passenger window was broken out, and she was missing a L.L. Bean tote bag, a North Face jacket and a leather jacket.

Police said they found a "copious amount of broken glass" both inside and outside the vehicle.

The Eastport restaurant received a special exception permit in January to build a rooftop deck for outdoor dining from the city's Board of Appeals.

At the board's meeting last month, Carrie Kennedy who lives nearby, called the restaurant a "bad neighbor" citing problems with the safety and overall condition of Rockfish's parking lot.

Gregory Casten, one of Rockfish's managing partners, told the board in December 2012 that the restaurant's parking lot was problematic under its previous owner. He said he and his partners have installed extra lighting and are planning to repave the lot.

Police were unable to obtain any fingerprints off the vehicle, but a search of the area turned up the tote bag near a dumpster in the 600 block of Severn Avenue.
