Nine candidates in the upcoming city primary election will square off at a Thursday debate hosted by the Anne Arundel Sierra Club and the Anne Arundel League of Conservation Voters.
All candidates with a stake in the Sept. 17 primaries have accepted invitations to the event, according to a press release from the Annapolis Neck Peninsula Federation.
That includes all five mayoral candidates: Mayor Joshua J. Cohen and Democratic challenger Bevin Buchheister; and Republicans Frank Bradley, Robert O’Shea and Michael Panteledes.
Two candidates from Ward 1: Democratic incumbent Joseph Budge and Democratic challenger Thomas McCarthy.
Two candidates from Ward 2: Democrats Timothy Mennuti and Kurt Riegel.
“With so many contentious environmental and development issues facing the city, we thought a forum dealing specifically with these concerns would be good for the candidates and the voters alike," said Anne Arundel Sierra Club Chair David Prosten."
Prosten said a follow-up debate will be scheduled once the dust settles from the primaries.
The debate will be Thursday, 7 p.m. at Heritage Baptist Church, located at 1740 Forest Dr.
