Carl Snowden Threatens to Sue 'The Capital'

At the end of a Tuesday night Annapolis Housing Authority meeting, Snowden accused the newspaper of unfair and erroneous coverage.

Carl Snowden, the beleaguered civil rights director for the Maryland Attorney General's Office, implied that he would pursue legal action against The Capital at an Annapolis Housing Authority meeting Tuesday night.

Snowden is also the chairman of the Housing Authority's Board of Commissioners.

The Capital journalist Elisha Sauers writes that Snowden delivered an unexpected 20-minute tirade against the newspaper, which he reportedly accused of providing unfair and inaccurate coverage of him.

"When I see a newspaper recklessly print information without checking the facts … I move aggressively, and I use the courts," Snowden said at the meeting, according to Sauers' article.

Tom Marquardt, editor and publisher of The Capital, told Patch that he was surprised by Snowden's threat. Marquardt said he attempted to contact Snowden on Wednesday morning but has not heard back.

"[Snowden and I] go back," he said. "We had lunch recently."

Marquardt stated the newspaper has made errors in its coverage of Snowden in the past but the mistakes were acknowledged.

"Unless something happened recently that I'm not aware of, I don't know what this is about," he said.

Sauers reported that the civil rights director also lambasted Anne Arundel County spokesman Dave Abrams—a former Capital journalist—for spreading lies about him to the media.

"I have no comment on Carl Snowden and his ridiculous comments," Abrams said to Patch. He gave the exact same quote to Sauers on Wednesday morning.

Snowden, who was on April 20, has already filed a $20 million lawsuit against for compiling a dossier against him. He is currently on sabbatical from the attorney general's office to pursue these charges.

A phone call seeking comment from was not immediately returned.

Of course he'll pursue the (probably unfounded) charges. It's our tax money, so why wouldn't he feel justified in wasting it? The more I hear about Snowden, the more I can see why Leopold would compile a dossier on him. I think of him as Anne Arundel's version of Marion Barry.

C'mon Tom, Marion Barry would never get busted...with a sex offender!

He probably bought the marijuana from his son. If I'm not mistaken his son was arrested on Rt.97 a few years back for possession of marijuana with a hand gun under the seat. Its no surprise that he wants to take everyone to court, how else will he pay for all the criminal charges. Prime example of another political figure that thinks he's above the law. When a child does something wrong, they start pointing fingers at others around them cause they don't want to accept responsibility for there actions.

@ Robert, people will always speak out against people who commit criminal acts. I'm offended that you turn this into a racially motivated article.

Hmmmm....unfair coverage. Does this mean that Republicans can sue...ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, Yahoo, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC, LA Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post....list goes on. And....on the other side can Democrats sue Fox News, Washington Times, Wall Street Journal?

Are you kidding? LoL.... He is a dirty politician. He has done nothing for ANY community.

Snowden is a disgrace to his race and a very poor figure-head indeed. If you do stupid and unlawful things, you're going to get caught and if you're a well-known person, those stupid things are going to attract attention. As for the lawsuits, Snowden seems to love law suits as much as O'Malley loves tax increases!!! Stop blaming others for your stupid mistakes and take responsibility like a real man! Of course, Snowden is not alone in this myriad of attention-attracting behaviors. And, he is in the company of a diverse group of idiots... not just "African American" ones.

Mr.Robert H. Eades that I know stands up and fights racial discrimination!!!!!!!!!!! Im asking in an ever so polite way to explain your David Duke comment? Sounds like you lost your own fight, and lost my respect!

Interesting choice of words….sabbatical. By definition it is any extended period of leave from one's customary work, especially for rest, to acquire new skills or training, WITH PAY. I would love to know if this means Snowden is being paid while pursuing his growing number of lawsuits…against the county and against the Capital.

Snowden has become leech. He needs to stop taking taxpayer money, smoking weed, and suing the county that pays him.
