Navy, Naval Academy Celebrates Their Birthdays

The Annapolis institution and city officials gear up for four days of events starting Oct. 10.

Annapolis will celebrate the 167th birthday of the U.S. Naval Academy and the 237th birthday of the U.S. Navy with four days worth of events and birthday specials.

Here's the list of events:

Oct. 10:

  • 4 p.m.—Brigade of Midshipmen performs “A Salute to the City of Annapolis” tribute parade on Worden Field. Mayor Josh Cohen, Gov. Martin O’Malley and Vice Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Mark Ferguson are scheduled to review the parade. 
  • 6:30 p.m.—A Navy birthday worship service will take place in the Naval Academy Chapel. Music for the worship service will be provided by the Navy Band and Sea Chanters of Naval District Washington, DC. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert and Chief of Navy Chaplains Rear Adm. Mark L. Tidd will speak at the service.

Oct. 11:

  • 7:30 p.m.—U.S. Naval Academy Band will perform at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts in Owings Mill.

Oct. 12:

  • 7 p.m.—U.S. Naval Academy Band will preform at St. Anne’s Church on Church Circle in Annapolis.
  • 8 p.m.—Annapolis Collection Gallery at 55 West St. will serve free blue and gold ice cream for one hour.

Oct. 13:

  • 8 p.m.—Annapolis Collection Gallery at 55 West St. will serve free blue and gold ice cream for one hour. 

Oct. 15:

  • 7 p.m.—U.S. Naval Academy Band will preform at Bishop McNamara High School in Forestville.
