Naval Academy Closes Entrance, Running Route for Renovations

The academy has created an alternative route for visitors wishing to do some on-base running.

Runners and visitors to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis will have to adjust their routes for the next several months as the school undergoes renovations.

The pedestrian gate on Prince George Street is closed until May 2013 due to renovations of the multipurpose gym in Halsey Field House.

A portion of the Naval Academy’s outer perimeter running route is closed due to renovations of the Administration Building. The “outer loop” is the road behind the building between Maryland Avenue and the chapel. It was closed on Jan. 23 and will likely remain closed for the next two to three months.

Informal activities such as running and dog walking are not allowed in front of the Administration Building along Blake Road. The school has created an alternate on-base route for runners that is 4.41 miles.

Visitors to the Naval Academy can still enter through Gate 1 on King George Street and Gate 3 on Maryland Avenue.
