Whiz Kid of the Week: Nhiyhana Nutter

Nhiyhana and her fellow Boys & Girls campers spent much of the summer displaying acts of kindness to others.

Whiz Kid's Name: Nhiyhana Nutter and Boys & Girls Club campers from across Anne Arundel County who spent the summer focusing on showing acts of kindness to those around them.

Whiz Kid's Age: 9

Whiz Kid's School: Hillsmere Elementary

Whiz Kid's Accomplishment: As a camper at the this summer, Nhiyhana has been learning about the importance of being kind. This past summer, the various clubs across the county worked toward a goal of performing 1 million acts of kindness.

Nhiyhana performed 1,000 acts of kindness.

Jessica Clark, a program assistant for the Bates Boys & Girls Club, said Nhiyhana was the “compliment queen," providing compliments and helping others feel good about themselves.

Nhiyhana said she learned that an act of kindness can be as simple as saying “Good morning.” She also said things at home, like helping her mom with groceries, are ways to show kindness, as well.

Whiz Kid's Key to Awesomeness (what made him/her successful?): Nhiyhana said she learned through demonstrating acts of kindness that “if you make mistakes you can always make it better.”

She said one way that can be done is by making your own decision and not just following friends or the crowd.

One of the ways the campers learned about kindness was by helping others in need.

Clark worked with the kids to make get-well cards for  on Mother’s Day. and his left foot due to the accident.

The club members displayed the cards at an Acts of Kindness showcase last week.

Clark said the kids kept up with Tristan’s progress.

“They ask about him every day,” she said.
