June 21 2012 is Fishable Action Day

Does the South River have “Fishable” water ways? Check out this slide show to see why we need to cleanup our waterways.

By Diana Muller, South RIVERKEEPER for the South River Federation

This year marks 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act, which states that our waters must be drinkable, fishable and swimmable in the United States and Territories.  Therefore, as part of celebrating the 40th Anniversary, the Waterkeepers have marked June 21, 2012 as the “Fishable” Day of Action.  Please celebrate this day with me as your South RIVERKEEPER. My question to everyone is:   Does the South River (MD) have “Fishable” water ways?  Let me show you through pictures, since it is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words.  (See slide show and captions)

So while you can certainly fish in the South River, you may not like what you catch (if it happened to survive the dead zone).  The South River Federation is working with partners throughout the watershed to improve the heath of the river and our fisheries, but we still have a long way to go to get to a truly "fishable" river.

Just make sure that they are not accessible. Don't want people not like us on the private beaches. Why should the public pay for the cleanup when it is the playground for the wealthy? There are no public beaches sin Annapolis or Anne Arundel. Sandy Point does not count unless the make it much bigger.

Beverly-Triton Beach Park (http://www.aacounty.org/recparks/parks/community/beverlytriton.cfm) is a county park open to the public and is located at the end of the Mayo peninsula. Also on the Mayo peninsula is Mayo Beach Park, which is a county park and is open to the public on select occasions, as it was two weeks ago for the South River Federation's annual summer South River Sojourn. There is no question though that public access to our rivers and the bay could be improved.

So Sounds like Chris S. is one of the wealthy. Well your precious playground is no use today and I think taxpayers will start to rebel on using our tax money to cleanup your playground.
